Fire Island Hosta is a foundation paper pieced design by Quiltworx.com.  This is a very popular pattern and has been through many re-designs and updated publications over the years.  The latest version is unique in that the units have been redesigned to meet updated design standards and sizes and as such, it is not compatible with past publications.  

This pattern design has been republished to use the ColorStock Cottons Basic Collection from Judy and Judel Niemeyer.  The new pattern includes a 68" to 80" border and can be expanded to King with the addition of a 277-H border.  

If you choose not to make the 68" to 80" border, you can take it to 99" with any of 242-D borders.  Then, it can go to 118" by adding a 284-K border.  

You can even take it to 102" by adding a 284-K adjustable border to the 80" size.  Please look for the Fire Island Hosta 2025 80 in to 118 in King Expansion layout in the Quilt Pattern library to start a new project using the larger size. 

At some point in the future, Quiltworx will be releasing some Medallion style queen borders that will fit the options for the Fire Island Hosta Queen which you may be familiar with from the past.  If you would like to use this type of expansion, we suggest you wait and purchase the Fire Island Hosta Queen pattern once it is released, instead.  Watch for this is the Spring of 2026.
